The Heritage Center is located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in southwestern South Dakota and is open year-round. The Red Cloud Indian Art Show started in 1969 is one of the largest and longest-running Native American art shows in the country, and one of the few held on an Indian reservation.
The Gift Shop sells affordable, locally made Lakota art, crafts and gifts, including porcupine quillwork, parfleche, star quilts, beadwork and more. The Gallery and Historic Collections showcase more than 10,000 pieces of historic and contemporary Native American art. Regional and national exhibits rotate through the gallery year-round. The Center is named after the great Oglala leader Chief Red Cloud whose vision helped establish Red Cloud School.
