Located on the southern reaches of the Laurel Ridge, Ohiopyle State Park encompasses approximately 20,500 acres of rugged natural beauty and serves as the gateway to the Laurel Highlands. Passing through the heart of the park, the rushing waters of the Youghiogheny River Gorge are the centerpiece for Ohiopyle. The “Yough” [yawk] provides some of the best whitewater boating in the eastern United States, as well as spectacular scenery and beautiful natural resources, and a unique sense of community that visitors can find throughout the region.

Located only about an hour and 20 minutes from Pittsburgh, this park has unlimited amounts of trails to explore, local places to eat, and access to both rushing and calm waters! Over 135 miles of the Great Allegheny Passage are open for hiking or biking, and there are also plenty of family-friendly activities such as fishing, swimming, or guided white water rafting trips. Lodging options range from campgrounds to hotels or rental homes, so you are able to decide to what extent you want to immerse yourself in nature!

If you’re looking for a family-friendly escape into nature that has activities catering to a range of abilities, Ohiopyle is the place to be!
