Omaha, Nebraska is a point along the 4900-mile-long Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail, a historic corridor that crosses 16 states and the lands of more than 65 native tribes.

The Lewis and Clark Headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska pays tribute to the journey of Captain Meriwether Lewis and William Clark through exhibits that help visitors picture the things members of the expedition may have seen or done as they traveled across the country. The Interpretive gardens located at the visitor’s center are full of plants native to the area the expedition may have seen including the Spiderwort plant which was used by the Dakota tribes as a love song charm. Inside the visitor’s center, guests can admire a variety of animal pelt as they try to guess which animal Lewis and Clark saw on their expedition the pelts may belong to or try on replicas of the clothing and gear worn on the trek west.
