The History Center is located in the heart of Madison, Indiana’s National Historic Landmark District. The nonprofit organization was founded in 1850 and has a mission to “educate the public about Jefferson County History through educational programs and displays, through the acquisition and maintenance of historic materials and through the provision of research opportunities for people interested in local history.”

Start your journey at their museum full of exhibits containing the rich history of Madison and Jefferson County from the civil war, steam boating and much more! History Center Jefferson County Historical Society Facebook Explore the restored 1895 Railroad Station Museum with a model of Madison’s early railroad and hop on the 1918 caboose, or imagine what shopping was like for Madison residents of the past in the General Store. The History Center is conveniently located at the corner of First and Mill street right next to the Visitor Center. Just look for the Red Caboose!
