Visitors seeking historically significant attractions will find U.S. Grant’s Birthplace & Museum to be a site built on reverence for the historical US figure. The birthplace of Ulysses S. Grant, 18th President of the United States, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The basic 3-room frame structure was built in 1817 and includes historic memorabilia and period furnishings offering contextual insight into the life of old America. The grounds and park provide a scenic view of the Ohio River.
Ulysses S. Grant was born in Point Pleasent, OH in 1822. Jesse Root Grant and Hannah Simpson Grant moved into the home in 1821 and paid $2 a month in rent. When the surrounding grounds were excavated, they found evidence of an 1810 tannery and some nineteenth-century pottery. The home is managed by The Ohio Historical Society.
