South of Tiber Dam, Lewis ended his reconnaissance of the Marias River in 1805. He determined that the river was not the Missouri, but he returned in July 1806 and with his small group, followed the river west hoping its source would be far to the north in present Canada.
Above the dam is a viewpoint with shaded interpretive panels explaining Lewis’s experience here. Included in the viewscape are the Sweet Grass Hills, Tower Mountain, and Bears Paw Mountains.
Surrounding Tiber Dam are several campgrounds: Sanford Park Campground, VFW Campground, Tiber Marina Campground, and Island Campground. The reservoir above the dam is a popular destination for boaters.
