Museum Mission:
The National Quilt Museum promotes the sustainability and growth of the quilting community by bringing the work of today’s quilters to audiences around the globe through exhibitions, education programs, and quilt preservation efforts.

Museum Values

  1. The museum believes today’s quilters create extraordinary artwork that is a unique and wonderful sensory experience for everyone.
  2. The museum believes the individuals who create quilts and fiber art are accomplished artists who deserve recognition and respect for their talents.
  3. The museum believes the work of these artists muse be preserved, and their skills shared, for the enjoyment and appreciation of future generations.

Museum Focus

The National Quilt Museum works to expand the footprint of quilting so that people can continue to experience and enjoy the art form for centuries to come.

Our work is focus on four main areas:

In facility and traveling exhibits

Exhibits
In addition to the over 40,000 people per year that enjoy rotating exhibits in the museum galleries, at any given time, more than a dozen other museums and events are exhibiting quilts that are part of the collection of The National Quilt Museum. These efforts bring the experience of quilting to new audiences every day. The museum is among the highest rated tourism destinations on TripAdvisor, having won the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence five consecutive years.

Youth and Adult Education

Education
Through dozens of programs including the School Block Challenge, Quilt Camp, Junior Quilters, The “Creative Stitch” Experience, and other hands-on experiences, The National Quilt Museum introduces quilting to thousands of people a year. Many of these participants make quilting a lifetime obsession.

Preservation

We are committed to being a vocal advocate for the effective handling of quilts. In addition to the management of our own collection of over 600 artifacts, our Curatorial department regularly educates people on ‘best practices’ for quilt handling.

Advocacy

Advocacy
This year alone, quilts from the collection of The National Quilt Museum appeared on publications worldwide including Southern Living Magazine, CNN Travel, Midwest Living, the Chicago Tribune, and many more. These efforts introduce millions of new people to the art form.

The National Quilt Museum is a 501c3 nonprofit organization primarily funded through the generosity of people passionate about quilting.
