Canoe Camp is where Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery worked with the Nez Perce to carve the canoes which took the expedition to the Pacific Ocean in 1805. This historic location is adjacent to the Clearwater River, approximately thirty-six miles from the Clearwater River Casino & Lodge, a perfect accommodation for visitors exploring the Lewis and Clark Trail and surrounding country. It’s also about six minutes from the Nez Perce National Historical Park Visitor Center.
Owned and managed by the Nez Perce Tribe, Clearwater River Lodge is located in Lewiston, Idaho, adjacent to the scenic Clearwater River. One of the top steelhead fishing streams in the Northwest, the river is known for the large steelhead that return to their spawning areas after two years in the ocean. There are also chinook salmon and native cutthroat trout in the summer. For kayakers and rafters, the rapids on the Clearwater are gentle and straightforward, making for smooth sailing through the beauty of the surrounding wilderness.
The Clearwater River Lodge features spacious rooms, two suites with Jacuzzi tubs, and an indoor pool and hot tub. The lodge is located next to the 6,000-square-foot Clearwater River Casino which includes a gift shop, full-service restaurant and sports bar.
Local and native art are sold at the gift shop, where there’s a wide variety of tribal jewelry and sterling silver to choose from, as well as many beaded items. Tribal-designed blankets and quilted comforters are the perfect remedy for cold winter nights.
Serving brunch and dinner, the Qeqiit Restaurant (Qeqiit translates to “wild potato”) offers a large selection of delectable options. A host of flavor-filled starters are a great introduction to the many delicious entrees. The Stadium Sports Bar also has a menu of appetizers and food options, along with a fine selection of spirits and draft beer. The Stadium Sports Bar features two video walls for sporting events, a juke box, and a wide array of games including pool, darts, beer pong, cornhole, and foosball.
The Clearwater River Casino & Lodge RV Park is located on the east end of the facility. With an unmatched location near the Clearwater River, the RV/camping area is one of the oldest campgrounds in Idaho. It includes 21 full hook-ups, outdoor pool, restrooms and showers.
About an hour away, the It’se Ye-Ye Casino (It’se Ye-Ye translates to Coyote) offers more gaming and dining options. Another 6,000-square-foot Nez Perce property, the casino is located in the town of Kamiah, Idaho. The town is nestled on the banks of the Clearwater River in a valley surrounded by scenic foothills, and along the Lewis and Clark Highway (U.S. Highway 12). Outdoor recreation opportunities include fishing, hunting, boating and hiking. Inside the It’se Ye-Ye Casino, the Qemes Café serves great food for hungry travelers.
