Strand Theatre
In 1920, owner Merton A. Sybert opened the Strand Theatre. The Strand showed first-run films until its closure in 1968, and then again during a twenty-year period of operation from 1976 to 1996. In 2002, the nonprofit Strand Theatre Preservation Society was founded to restore and reopen the Strand as a performing arts venue. With the help of funding from the State Historic Preservation Office, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and other sources, and with work from numerous volunteers, the long process began. The Strand Theatre puts on several musicals and plays every year in addition to opening its doors to area musicians and actors who seek a venue for their own performances.
The theatre screens several films a year, from The Rocky Horror Picture Show to Dough Boy. The theatre is also available for rental for showing movies at company parties as well as private birthday parties.
Featuring a new sound system, the Strand Theatre is a great location for concerts! Artists such as Landau Eugene Murphy Jr & The Ron Retzer Trio have graced the stage. You can bring your own concert to the venue too!
