Steamboat Trace is an abandoned railroad corridor that is now a picturesque location for hiking and biking. Covering 22 miles parallel to the Missouri River, Steamboat Trace highlights the best of Nebraska’s flora, fauna, and landscapes. With a variety of different tree and plant species along the way, Steamboat Trace showcases the area’s biodiversity. Additionally, wildlife sightings, including turkey, deer, squirrels, and bobcats, make this trail an exciting experience. Along the trail, visitors will experience sandstone bluffs, cut across open farm fields, and have breathtaking views of the river. Trailheads are located at Brownville, Peru, and south of Nebraska City. No permit is required to enjoy the trail, although voluntary donations are accepted and used to maintain the trail.
