Sistersville Ferry
Experience a bit of Ohio River history with a ride on the Sistersville Ferry—the last operating ferry serving West Virginia and Ohio and the only ferry operating on the upper 427 miles of the Ohio River. It has provided over two centuries of transportation to people and businesses within the Ohio’s Long Reach.
The ferry service between Sistersville, West Virginia and Fly, Ohio—then part of the Northwest Territory—began operating in 1817. Meriwether Lewis may not have seen a ferry here when his flotilla of boats passed in September 1803, but he did see ferries in other locations.
