The Shannon Trail is 180 mile trip through unique communities in northeast Nebraska portraying statues of Private George Shannon with information on the life of Private George Shannon, the youngest member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. There are 16 communities in Knox and Cedar Counties that are part of the Shannon Trail, and two Native American tribes are in Knox County (the Santee Sioux and the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska).
This trip through the communities also has over 700 geocaches to entice geocachers to travel the Shannon Trail. The Shannon Trail Promoters is celebrating twenty years of keeping the story of Lewis and Clark alive. The friendly people and the life and stories in the small communities in northeast Nebraska are a joy to share with visitors and they welcome historians to enjoy agriculture life and the history along the Missouri River.
