The Seaside Museum & Historical Society of Oregon is a non-profit educational institution incorporated by the State of Oregon to collect, preserve and interpret materials illustrative of the history and culture of Seaside, Oregon, and the surrounding area.
The museum has on display, information from the Lewis & Clark Saltworks that were established at the south end of Seaside during the winter of 1806. Included, is a written testimony from a Clatsop Indian Tribe Member as to the location and construction of the original salt cairn.
Seaside Museum also hosts “Lewis & Clark Saltmakers Return” in September of each year where historical reenactors make salt on Seaside beach just as they would have in 1806.
