The Racine Locks & Dam was dedicated in 1971 and together with the downstream Robert C. Byrd Dam, maintains river levels in Mason County. A public recreation area on the West Virginia side of the river includes a park with a picnic area, playground, and parking. Rough trails provide access to the river and fishing opportunities. The park opens at dawn and closes at dusk each day.
