There’s a giant penguin standing in the center of this Kansas City park. Penguin Park features common playground elements like swings and slides, but it is most known for its distinct collection of giant fiberglass animals, which include its namesake penguin, an elephant, a kangaroo, and a giraffe. The Kansas City North parks district supervisor, Vernon Jones, crafted these statues by hand nearly fifty years ago to make something fun for the kids in Kansas City. Labeled a “destination park” by Kansas City’s director of Parks and Recreation, Penguin Park has delighted generations of kids and will continue to welcome thousands of visitors each year.
