A hidden gem for nature lovers, and those who would rather hike in the woods than be on social media, can be found among the trails and recreation areas of the Letart Nature Park!
For generations the Sayre brothers were respected within the Letart community for farming and working their land all while preserving the land and nature. As a continuation of their legacy and commitment to their community during 1978 they sold 272 acres at a below market price to the Mason County Commission for the development of a nature preserve and recreation area. A few years later the Commissioners utilized additional grant funds to develop 9 acres of the land which currently houses the Letart Community Center and includes a beautiful outdoor picnic area, playground, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a walking track. The remaining acreage includes two long nature trails, with several more in development, and scenic vistas.
