A little off the beaten path, but worth taking time to check out!
The Historical Museum at St. Gertrude is focused on the history of North Central Idaho, and its exhibits highlight the stories of the fascinating Benedictine sisters – Polly Bemis and Buckskin Bill – who were part of the Nez Perce people. Specifically, the site aims to preserve the heritage of the Monastery of St. Gertrude, Camas Prairie, Snake River, Salmon River, and surrounding areas, and its collections cover mining, ranching, farming, the Chinese in Idaho, the Nez Perce, local characters, antique weapons and many more. At the Museum, you may also visit a replica of the original attic museum began by Sister Alfreda Elsonsohn, celebrated Idaho historian and foundress of the site! What to see are also numerous fun events, such as the Raspberry Festival fundraiser or October Lecture series.
Embark on a cultural and educational experience and spend time in a quiet and peaceful environment in which you can learn about the past, becoming more aware of great accomplishments of our ancestors.
