Paducah, as a city along a major river, has a very interesting history that is fully intertwined with the Ohio River. As rivers were the highways of the pre-industrial world, a region’s main port city tended to be the center of cultural and economic activities, as well as an area of strategic importance during times of conflict.
Paducah is full of historic buildings and beautiful architecture. Though visitors probably can’t see all of the city’s offerings in one trip, the Historic Paducah Audio Tour makes it easier to see some of the places that played an interesting role in Paducah’s history.
Starting the tour at the Visitor’s Bureau (formerly a Victorian storefront), visitors will be able to see some of Paducah’s major landmarks, such as the National Quilt Museum, as well as its more less recognized buildings, including the sleek and modern city hall from 1965 and the gorgeous cast-iron storefront of the Cohen Building from the 1870s. The highlight of the Historic Paducah Audio Tour is perhaps the riverfront, which acts as the focal point for past and present-day life in Paducah.
Whether this is your first time in Paducah or your 50th, the Historic Paducah Audio Tour will offer a unique perspective of this charming city.
