Harry Koyama Fine Art is the studio/gallery of Montana native Harry Koyama. A full-time painter, Koyama concentrates on immortalizing subjects of the American West, utilizing his passion for impressionism to create dramatic artwork with the use of the painting knife and a bold color scheme.

Mr. Koyama specializes in oil paintings of western wildlife, Native American subjects as well as local landscapes. The business is located in the historic district in downtown Billings. An impressionist painter, Koyama’s work is being shown throughout the western states.

Explore Monticello: A Window into Jefferson's Vision and the Lewis and Clark Expedition

Perched atop a hill in Charlottesville, Virginia, Monticello was the home of Thomas Jefferson, the third U.S. president and architect of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Jefferson meticulously planned the expedition from this very estate, aiming to chart the newly acquired western territories.

Then and Now:
In Jefferson's era, Monticello was a sprawling plantation surrounded by cultivated fields and woodlands. Today, it stands as a meticulously preserved UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering visitors a glimpse into early American history and Jefferson's innovative designs.

Fun Facts:
Monticello is the only private home in the U.S. recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Jefferson referred to his home as his "essay in architecture," reflecting his passion for design.

Activities:
Visitors can tour the house and gardens, explore exhibits on Jefferson's contributions, and view artifacts related to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The estate also offers walking trails that traverse the historic grounds.

Hours of Operation: Monticello's hours vary seasonally. As of March 2025, the Visitor Center operates from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with the historic mountaintop opening 30 minutes later. For the most current hours, please visit their official website.

Experience the Dignity Statue in Chamberlain, South Dakota!

Perched on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River near Chamberlain, the Dignity of Earth & Sky statue is a breathtaking tribute to the Lakota and Dakota peoples. This magnificent 50-foot-tall stainless steel sculpture depicts a Native American woman adorned in a traditional 1850s-style dress, gracefully holding a star quilt featuring 128 stainless steel blue diamond shapes that shimmer in the sunlight and ripple with the wind.

While the Lewis and Clark Expedition traversed this region in the early 1800s, the landscape has transformed from untouched prairies to developed areas with modern amenities. Today, visitors can appreciate both the natural beauty and cultural landmarks like the Dignity statue that now enhance the area.

Fun Fact: The statue was designed by South Dakota artist Dale Lamphere and unveiled in 2016 to honor the state's 125th anniversary.

Adjacent to the statue, the Chamberlain Rest Area houses a Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, offering exhibits and information about the expedition's journey through the region. The Chamberlain Welcome Center operates seven days a week from mid-May through October, with daily hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Restroom facilities remain accessible year-round.
