“the Bluffs in this part as also below Shew different Straturs of Coal or carbonated wood, and Coloured earth, such as dark brown, yellow a lightish brown, & a dark red &c.”
—William Clark April 28, 1805
A short detour off the “Highline” will take you to the Culbertson Bridge Fishing Access Site with a view of the exact bluffs described by Clark in late April. On the southern end of the Culbertson Bridge (Montana State Highway 16), you will also find an interpretive panel, pit toilet, and a sandy beach. Stop for the view, have a picnic, or drop a line in the Missouri River.
