Cantonment Wilkinsonville (Historical Marker)
Just after the 1800s began, this camp served as home for approximately one-third of the entire US Army. A few Expedition members were based here, including Patrick Gass, who served a vital role on the journey as a carpenter. The actual site of the encampment is on private property and may not be visited, but views of the river and the general landscape in the area give an idea of the original setting. The marker is on the right as you travel about 22 miles from Cairo, at a small pullout after Holly Lane
