Washunga Days is an annual music and community festival that celebrates the past and present culture of Council Grove and Morris County, Kansas. Each year our Council Grove Area Trade & Tourism Association empowers a diverse group of community members to dive in and create the most fun, family-friendly festival in the Flint Hills!
Our Washunga Days Festival has the most outstanding fireworks show in Kansas! A parade that fills candy buckets and knocks socks off! Three days of musical acts, we have an established track record of booking amazing up-and-comers, so you can say, “I saw them at Washunga back in the day!” and, of course, established favorites! Tons of vendors, kids’ activities, a killer car show, and so much more.
Washunga Days has been a Council Grove tradition for more than three decades. Be sure to mark off the third full weekend in June every year and come to soak in the all-American fun at Washunga Days in Council Grove, Kansas!
The area beneath the arbor is used for dancing and ceremonies, called the arena. The arena is sacred for the Kaá^ze Nikashin^ga (the Kaw People). The ground has been blessed by the Kaw spiritual leaders. Photographs may be taken during the Powwow, but please ask permission before taking photos of individuals. Photos should never be taken during Veterans’ Songs, Flag Songs, prayers, or any other time specified by the master of ceremonies. This is all part of powwow etiquette.
