Completed in 1867, Promont is an Italianate-style home with unique architectural elements that was called the finest house in Clermont County when built. Promont was the home of Governor John M. Pattison, Ohio’s 43rd governor, from 1879-1906. A large stained glass window on the front stairway, varied moldings in each room, Italian marble fireplaces, and a four-story tower offering a panoramic view of the town provide a trip back to the elegance of the Victorian period. The structure of the home has never been altered, giving visitors an accurate idea of what life was like in the home.
The home showcases several state-of-the-art features of the time including: interior shutters, call bells in every room, argon gas light features, gravity-flow running water, a force pump water system, a washstand in every room, and a closet in the kitchen with a slide to the dining room.
The museum offers a library, period furnishings, art, china, photographs, memorabilia, and a gift shop.
