The Eulett Center sits at the entrance to the Edge of Appalachia Nature Preserve in West Union, Ohio. It takes its name from Charles A. Eulett, a teacher and naturalist from Adams County who advocated for the protection of local prairies and grasslands in the 1960s and 70s. The nature preserve protects 20,000 acres of pristine forestlands, prairies, ravines, and slopes. Designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1974, it is easily one of the most biologically diverse areas in the Midwestern United States. The Eulett Center and Nature Preserve are comanaged by the Cincinnati Museum Center and the Nature Conservancy in Ohio.
Several hiking trails are maintained within the nature preserve. The Christian and Emma Goetz Buzzardroost Rock Preserve is one of the most popular trails, leading visitors through prairies, woodlands, over streams, past rocky outcroppings, wildflowers, and ending in one of the most stunning views found in the state of Ohio. Over 100 rare plant and animal species have been identified within the Nature Preserve, and both amateur and professional naturalists have contributed to their identification. Complete lists can be found at the Nature Preserve’s website listed below.
The Eulett Center itself is available to rent for private conferences, meetings, and community events. Boasting a multipurpose room, a classroom, and overnight facilities for visiting researchers, the center is well-equipped for all event needs.
