It was at Chinook Point where the Corps of Discovery first saw the Pacific Ocean. After a year and a half of constant traveling westward, Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery finally began to see the end in sight of their journey as they traveled along what is today the Columbia River.

Nowadays, Chinook Point is part of and managed by the Fort Columbia Historical State Park, which was and is to this day still considered a historic coastal defense site in the U.S. Apart from the historical significance of Chinook Point, outdoor enthusiasts can reap the added benefits from what the park offers. There are miles of trails for hiking or biking, secluded beaches, bird watching and wildlife viewing opportunities, multiple sites for picnicking and interpretive opportunities. Visitors can even book overnight stays in one of the restored and remodeled vacation houses.
