The Howard Steamboat Museum is a small, but spectacular museum dedicated to preserving the history of the famous three-generation steamboat building Howard family, their legacy, and the lore of the great steamboat era.
Located in the mansion built by the shipyard employees between 1890 and 1894, the museum features 80% original furnishings (60% of which came from a family expedition to the Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893). We tell the story of the earliest navigating pioneers to the current day on the river with extensive focus on the steamboat era.
