In the scenic town of Loveland, there lives a castle, built by Sir Harry and the Knights of the Golden Trail. And while it seems anachronistic for there to be knights and a Medieval-looking castle in the middle of Ohio, it makes more sense in context.
Harry Andrews, a public notary, led a Boy Scout troop called the Knights of the Golden Trail. Andrews was interested in the Medieval era after he had seen many beautiful castles in the English, French, and German styles during his time as a medic in World War One (where he also discovered his hatred for modern warfare). He decided that he would build a castle for his scouts; they were knights after all! He spent fifty years building Chateau Laroche, gathering the stones from the Little Miami River.
While Sir Harry passed away in 1981, the Knights of the Golden Trail remain. Chateau Laroche is still their headquarters and it is still guarded by the knights to this day. The castle is open to visitors, and it is locally known for its beauty (and for supposedly being haunted). It is highly recommended to ask one of the knights about the ghosts!
Tours are self guided, so visitors can explore at their own pace. Right next to the keep, there is a beautiful garden: perfect for having a picnic or simply relaxing.
