Leaving Indian Beach at Ecola State Park the Clatsop Loop Trail takes you to the top of Tillamook Head. Most hikers climb 1.25 miles up to the spectacular viewpoints and return. Hikers can also continue 4 miles north to cross the entire Tillamook Head coming down at The Cove in Seaside, Oregon. This is the trip that Clark, some enlisted men, and Sacagawea, followed to gather blubber from a beached whale.
The southern end of the trail is very popular and graveled in many places. The trail continuing to Seaside leaves the crowds behind, but usually has very muddy conditions—even in summer.
