Wesselman Woods is the largest Urban Old Growth Forest in the United States. This plot of land is the largest tract of virgin, old-growth forest within any city limits in the United States. As an Indiana Nature Preserve and National Natural Landmark, Wesselman Woods is a surviving remnant of Southern Indiana’s original forests. The species of trees and fauna are the same types that would have been experienced by Lewis and Clark while on the trail. We invite you to visit our facilities and introduce your family to the joys and benefits of their outdoor world. Whether you are seeking solace, enrichment or adventure, we’ve got a place for you! The Welborn Baptist Foundation Nature Playscape was established in May 2018 at Wesselman Woods. This area provides play opportunities for children to follow their own ideas and interests within a wooded landscape consisting of rocks, and fallen logs, and native plants. With just over five-acres of natural landscape, our Nature Playscape is one of the largest in the country.
