Lewis and Clark Hut at Judith Landing

The Lewis and Clark Hut is located on the old PN Ranch owned and operated by the American Prairie. The hut provides spectacular views of the Judith River Basin where the Lewis and Clark Expedition spent the night of May 28, 1805.

Amenities include three bunkrooms (sleeps eight), kitchen with solar-powered refrigerator, and a propane oven and stove top. Guests need to bring their own water, Solar panels provide lighting and small-item charging.

From nearby Dog Creek, a bison in 1805 swam across the river and trampled through the Lewis and Clark Expedition’s campsite waking everybody. Fortunately, Seaman’s barking diverted the panicked bull, and no one was hurt. Imagine that scene from the hut’s covered deck on the edge of the Dog Creek Wilderness Study Area.

The hut can be accessed via Montana State Highway 236 providing access from Big Sandy or Lewistown, Montana. For many miles, the road is improved gravel but expect slick conditions when wet.
