The Lewis & Clark Exploratory Center in Charlottesville, Va., will host on February 8 a tour of its replica of the keelboat used by the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

The event, which includes a presentation on the history of the original boat, goes from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Eastern Time) at the center in Darden Towe Park. The attendance fee is $15. To purchase a ticket to the event: Eventbrite.

The original boat was constructed in Pittsburgh, Pa. The boat carried the expedition in 1803 down the Ohio River and up the Mississippi River, and then, in 1804, up the Missouri River into North Dakota.

Attendees of the event will have a special look at Lewis and Clark journals and learn about landmarks and river travel. The tour will be repeated on March 8.

The popular Lewis & Clark Exploratory Center is a hands-on center focusing on the historic expedition as a gateway for learning about history, exploration, transportation, the arts, science, the natural environment, and native cultures.

Built by adults and schoolchildren in Charlottesville, the center’s boat has provided educational opportunities for thousands of schoolchildren. Event proceeds will go to the center’s keelboat educational programs and the Keelboat Restoration Fund.
