Library Company of Philadelphia
“The Library Company of Philadelphia is an independent research library concentrating on American society and culture from the 17th through the 19th centuries. Free and open to the public, the Library Company houses an extensive non-circulating collection of rare books, manuscripts, broadsides, ephemera, prints, photographs, and works of art.”
The library has a copy of History of Louisiana by Antoine Le Page Du Pratz which is inscribed in Lewis’s on hand:
Dr. Benjamin Smith Barton was so obliging as to lend me this copy of Monsr. Du Pratz’s history of Louisiana in June 1803. It has been since conveyed by me to the Pacific ocean through the interior of the Continent of North America on my late tour thither and is now returned to it’s proprietor by his
