The Blackfeet are a confederacy of three main groups: the Piegan (Piikani), the Blood (Kainai), and the Blackfoot (Siksika). Traditionally nomadic, they were known for their skill in hunting bison, trading, and their prowess as warriors. At the time of the expedition, the Blackfeet controlled large areas of the northern Great Plains, particularly in what is now Montana and Alberta.
The Native Life Store is a one-stop specialization store that features fabrics, supplies for Native regalia, and various gifts. Located in Browning, Montana, they sell beadwork made by local artists, Montana made jellies and jams, candles, artwork, and much more with a goal to collaborate with local artists as much as possible to get a wide variety of different works.
Owner Angela Johnson was inspired by her own experiences in preparing her children’s outfits for dancing in powwows when she realized that she had to shop at so many different stores in order to find the products she needed. This store makes Indigenous fabrics and material for Native regalia much more accessible for all. For the everyday sewer and quilter, the store has all the supplies you need.
The store is a comfortable and welcoming environment for all. Visitors can participate in sewing classes, sewing clubs, or enjoy coffee or tea as they explore the store. Be sure to try their custom house blend, fittingly named Native Life after the store.
