For a truly one of a kind location, Montana’s Garden of One Thousand Buddhas is located a bit north of the city, in between the small towns of Arlee and Ravalli, nestled inside the Jocko Valley on the land of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. The Garden is a public park and Buddhist center in the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism whose goal is to foster a positive transformation by instilling a lasting impression of wisdom and compassion among all who visit. As the name suggests, the Garden holds one thousand buddhas and one thousand stupas, as well as a 24-foot tall figure of Yum Chenmo, or Prajnaparamita in Sanskrit meaning Transcendent Perfection of Wisdom. Tours of the Garden are offered seasonally, from April to October, with the Garden itself open to visitors year round with the option to take a self-guided tour with a brochure available for download on their website.
