Fall Homeschool Days at Big Bone Lick

Take a break from lessons and tests to spend some time outside with hands-on learning! Homeschool Days are designed for homeschooling families looking to take educational field trips. Each class will cover a new topic through two, 45-minute programs. **PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED** $10.00 per student per class, 5 and up. Contact claire.kolkmeyer@ky.gov to preregister with your name, age of student(s), preferred class dates, phone number, and mailing address. Space limited. Prepayment required to maintain class registration. September 10 – LEWIS AND CLARK Let’s go on an adventure and learn about Lewis and Clark, their expedition west, and their role at Big Bone Lick. Students will have the opportunity to earn their Lewis and Clark Junior Ranger Badge through the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. Commemorative badge to take home. September 24 – INTO THE ORDOVICIAN Did you know that the tri-state area is world renowned for its high concentration of Ordovician invertebrate fossils? Students will have the opportunity to learn about these fossils, test their skills looking for them in fossil creek, and making a clay “fossil” to take home. October 29 – LIVE BIRDS OF PREY Join guest educator Tom Sproat of Critters in the Classroom for a live birds of prey demonstration! Students will have the opportunity to view live hawks and owls, learn about their life and other KY native birds of prey, and dissect an owl pellet. November 1 – NATIONAL BISON DAY Celebrate our national mammal on National Bison Day with the Big Bone Bison! Students will have the opportunity to learn about bison, their role in the lives of indigenous people across the U.S., and have an up-close meet and greet with the park’s live herd.
