Along some of the last undeveloped stretches of the Missouri River is Cross Ranch State Park. Featuring a boat ramp, plus canoe and kayak rentals, visitors are able to enjoy this pristine segment of the river, and anglers can find a bounty of local fish species. The park’s trail system is open to hikers and cross-country skiers, entering into a 5,000-acre nature preserve with mixed grass prairie, river bottom forests, and wood draws. The Ma-ak-oti “Old Village” Trail is 4.2 miles, winding through prairie bluffs and wooded channels, opening to sprawling views of the Missouri River. Campers can make use of the park’s primitive campground or camp in a backcountry area.
