Named after the young Native American who helped guide the Lewis and Clark expedition, this state park is conveniently located just north of Pick City, the third largest man-made lake features 368,000 acres of freshwater. Lake Sakakawea State Park offers a variety of activities for both dry-land lovers and water enthusiasts. There are several trails for hikers to choose from including 1.78 miles of the North Country National Scenic Trail known as the Western Terminus. The Lake Sakakawea Marina offers 74 slips for rental for those that wish to sail around the lake. Travelers can rest at the campgrounds or stay in the camping cabins. Fishing fanatics will have no trouble spotting walleye, northern pike, and chinook salmon who make the lake their home. There is enough outdoor fun here to enjoy a nice weekend camping getaway or one of the many breathtaking stops along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.
