Located at 4604 Monongahela Street in the Hazelwood neighborhood of Pittsburgh, the John Woods House is a stone house Pub that was constructed in 1792. Added to the List of City of Pittsburgh historic designations by Pittsburgh City Council on February 22, 1977, the Woods House Pub is considered the oldest house in Pittsburgh. Thanks to the Hazelwood community and the Greater Hazelwood Historic Society of Pittsburgh, this landmark house has been given new life as a restaurant and pub.

Today the John Woods House is home to a historic pub with classic Scottish and local fare, named The Woods House. What was once the home of Colonel George Woods, the surveyor of Pittsburgh’s Golden Triangle, now provides delicious meals to visitors that pay homage to what the former owner and the eventual Anglo-Scots settlers would have eaten in that time period.

The Woods House Pub serves up an array of hearty dishes like as fish and chips, bangers and mash, potato leek soup, and the forever classic macaroni and cheese. These comforting meals are sure to warm up guests with their flavors and tradition. While the traditional fare is warm and comforting, vegetarians will have their palates pleased with options like Guinness Seitan Pie, and the Lenten Special, a coconut curry shrimp with a coconut cilantro yoghurt sauce.

This house has seen it all and has remained standing for almost 250 years. It is a testament to time, and after 30 years of abandonment, the Hazelwood community had longed to see this house thrive again. With a new purpose after dereliction, visitors, locals, and community members alike can bring life back into this historic house.
