America’s premier zoo dedicated exclusively to birds, the National Aviary is home to more than 600 birds representing 200 species, many of them threatened or endangered in the wild, and it is located right in Pittsburgh! Visitors can watch flamingos frolic; witness massive owls spread their wings; offer nectar treats to a flock of rainbow lorikeets, and talk with a pair of colorful toucans. The Aviary offers a dining option in their garden room as well as a gift shop.

Penguin Point, an open-air exhibit that is home to a colony of noisy, playful penguins, affords close-up views of penguins swimming, diving, and basking in the sun, while the new Grasslands exhibit places visitors in a habitat filled with a brilliant array of finches, weavers, and other beautiful birds. Large walk-through exhibits allow for close interactions between visitors and free-flying birds, and daily, educational programs are also offered where visitors can hand-feed and meet species rarely found in zoos.
