McNary Beach Park in Hermiston is a great place to view the beautiful Columbia River. McNary Beach Park also borders Lake Wallula, a prime spot for relaxing and fishing. Lewis and Clark travelled along the Columbia River during their expedition, establishing their last fort, Fort Clatsop, alongside the river before reaching the Pacific Ocean on one of the river’s tributaries.

McNary Beach Park is a wonderful place to stop for those following the footsteps of the Corps of Discovery. There are scenic views of the local beauty from everywhere and multiple trails for hiking. The park has grills and other amenities for picnics, as well as a playgrounds to keep kids playing and moving. The lake, however, is probably the most visited part of the park. McNary Beach Park’s lake is connected to a boat ramp and has nearly no current, making it a popular boating destination. The lake also has a swimming area, the perfect respite on a hot summers day.
