Mansions on Fifth

The Mansions on Fifth is a unique Pittsburgh Boutique Hotel located on Fifth Avenue in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh PA. The former McCook Estate, on the “Millionaire’s Row” of Fifth Avenue is the grand mansion.

Willis F. McCook was a successful attorney, legal counsel to Henry Clay Frick, and chairman to the Carnegie Steel Company. Later he was named president and director of the Pittsburgh Steel Company.

The mansion was completed in 1906. With an original square footage of 20,000, the building was designed around to create spacious rooms and impressive shared spaces. The mansion offers 13 guest rooms and suites, a Grand Hall, a Chapel, a library, and two private dining rooms.

Today guests can expect the same grand architectural work as over a century ago, including such special touches like Rudy Brother’s Art Glass, Rockwood Ceramic Tiles around each fireplace, and Cyril Colnik ironwork. Some of the additional features that will please visitors include:

  • Elegant, historic property with beautiful period-style interiors
  • Individually decorated rooms with period antiques and quality reproductions
  • Free continental breakfast; hot breakfast and weekly dinner service available
  • Upscale-classic bar, The Oak Room, that has a light food menu and happy hour
  • Fitness center with cardio equipment; in-room massages available
  • Beautiful event space for up to 450 people
  • Concierge and butler service available
  • Free Wi-Fi and free valet parking
  • Art gallery and art on display, some available for purchase

The property is also home to a smaller mansion (completed in 1906 and adjacent to the larger residence) that was originally constructed for McCook’s daughter. This smaller mansion, the Fifth Avenue Hotel’s Amberson House, is about 8,000 square feet and boasts 9 rooms and suites. The Amberson House is also available to guests.
