During the Christmas in Carlinville weekend in Southern Illinois, visitors of all ages can tour the historic Macoupin County’s “Million Dollar Courthouse.” As the name suggests, this courthouse cost over $1 million to build. Created in the 1800s, this courthouse was the first fireproof building in the country. It was also one of the largest courthouses in the country at the time. The “Million Dollar Courthouse” is still a working courthouse to this day. An architectural wonder, tours are available twice throughout the day. Be sure to stop by this historic building during your visit!
