Located at the confluence of the mighty Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, Lewis & Clark State Historic site celebrates the winter that the Lewis & Clark Expedition spent preparing at Camp River Dubois from December 1803 – May 1804. The site includes a 14,000 sq. foot Interpretive Center with theater, reconstructed Camp River Dubois encampment, full-scale keelboat replica, reconstructed early 19th Century Settler’s Cabin, and confluence viewing area.

Camp River Dubois is the location where training and bonding forged the team now known as the Corps of Discovery. Preparations and supplies gathered while wintering in the Illinois Country had an invaluable impact on the Expedition’s success. Staff and volunteers share this rich history with visitors through tours of the site and special programs throughout the year.

Lewis & Clark State Historic Site is administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. It is supported by the Lewis & Clark Society of America. Admission is free with a freewill donation box available at the entrance. The site offers free parking, pavilions and picnic areas, access to county bike trails, public restrooms and changing tables, water fountain, vending machine, and gift shop (the Store of Discovery).
