This nature preserve was so impressive that the explorer, Meriwether Lewis, of the Lewis and Clark expedition, wrote about its beauty in his journal. In modern times, it remains just as stunning! Visitors can admire the same incredible canyons and limestone cliffs that the Lewis and Clark Expedition saw. The powerful Missouri River carves its way through the center of this reserve. Beyond admiring the scenery, there are opportunities to hike nature trails, have a picnic, or camp. The wilderness is located not far from Helena, and the hiking and camping opportunities make it a perfect day trip!
